Indians on the Moon

Apparently the Indian government plans on spending tens of thousands of crore on research and development of systems and training for a moonshot. They also plan on re-inventing many of the tested systems that have been used in previous Moon landings by other countries - manned and unmanned. Indian technology has already produced the launch vehicle (a rocket system with the capability of sending a payload into orbit) and has successfully launched satellites. They are also planning to launch an unmanned lunar orbiter/impactor as soon as December. Much R&D needs to be done in the interim such as the actual creation of the lunar modules, and development of systems and practices needed to actually make the trip survivable for the occupant(s).

ooo....i think i'm in love with Kiwikid...
How exciting! When was the last time anyone visited the moon? I was wondering this as I watched Apollo 13 on TBS the other day.
Unfortunately I don't follow our space travel too much - which is odd since I love sci-fi - maybe not enough interstellar conflict - but hemingway - are we focusing our efforts on the new space station? Is that it? Is that the noise your heard?
whew...
better lay off the coffee....
NASA is currently working on two new launch vehicles. I did a post about them that was lost to The Great Flush.
Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the Moon. Coincidentally Cas, it was launched on your birthday in 1972.
NASA is still, of course, the biggest player in space, the main contractor for the ISS , and the organization with the highest payload capacity launch vehicle. NASA is also planning another manned Moon landing around 2018. The idea is to study the possibility of using the Moon as a platform for a manned mission to Mars.
` Indian Thriller? Aaaaa haaa haaaaa! It seems to have disappeared from the face of the internet.
` I think it's great that someone's going up there! As long as they are more careful than they were with Space Shuttle Columbia.... Yes, that would be really exciting!! There hasn't been a moon launch in FOR EVAR!!!
