Is This It?

Last Thursday I did something for the first time that most people are accostomed to doing regularly. I actually paid somebody else to change the oil in my car. It may seem like it's not a big deal to you, but it was for me. I've been driving for 12 years, had many cars, and have done the vast majority or maintenance and repairs myself. My main arguments for not having my oil changed was the price difference and that I wanted to be sure it was done right. Changing it myself would only cost $7-10, but having somebody else do it costs at least $30. I've never had a lot of money to throw around for unnecessary things like that. I still don't have the money, but lately I haven't had the time to get dirty nor the patience to do the job.
This time the want was born from necessity. I'm not sure I'll have somebody else do it next time. I'm still going to change my own brakes and do whatever other repairs are within my realm of expertise, but I may be tempted to let them change my oil again - it felt pretty good.

$30? Where are you going to get your oil changed that costs that much? Jiffy Lube is about $24 if you go every 3 months/3000 miles. I know everyone knows someone who had a bad experience with them, but I never have. I like it that they're open on Saturday AND Sunday, too. Jason was on that DIY kick with his oil changes, too, but I think he's also realized it's time consuming.

I hate paying that much for an oil change....also, I don't even know if they change the filter. I do it when I can, but I don't have a good place to get rid of the old oil close by.
` My opinion? We need something other than oil.
There's a challenge for you Spoony. Invent a method to cheaply mass produce Hydrogen!
Why do we use oil now? Because it's cheaper per gallon than bottled water! It is the cheapest source of the kind of energy we need.
Just as soon as we can drive 400 miles on $30 worth of H2, gasoline will go away.
wow.
all i can say is wow.
You PAID someone to change your oil? Remember in high school how bent out of shape you got when i would tell you i was going to take MY car in?
you would take me to that car place off prairie view road to buy supplies and YOU would change my oil FOR me, cause YOU said it was a WASTE!!!
haha!
good times....good times....
You're absolutely right Cas. I thought you might appreciate how much of a departure this was for me. I'm sure Jason and Laura do too.
I completely failed to mention that my car was in for service anyway. It was leaking coolant. Come to find out that it's the heater core which costs over $300. I figured why not let them do an oil change since they were doing so much work already. I still have yet to go to somebody else for the specific purpose of paying them to change my oil.
