i voted that i liked your profile.
so how does SETI work? i know my brother is on it, too - but i don't know how you set up your computer for that.
i guess i COULD read the webpage - but you should explain it in laymen's terms!
So, SETI has a bunch of radio telescopes pointed at the sky. They record the radio waves they receive and chop them up into small pieces (work units). At that point the work units are distributed out to the SETI clients which run on machines that have the SETI@home client software installed. The SETI@home client software uses extra CPU time to process/interpret the data in the work unit looking for intelligent signals. When the processing is done, the client machine sends the results back to SETI, and the client user gets 'credits' - which serve no other purpose than bragging rights.
You can also use the BOINC software to help in many other fields of research. I suggest everybody tries it.
i voted for you too. i was hooked along time ago and almost forgot about SETI until you just reminded me about it.
Denny! Long time! Glad I could remind you about SETI.
` I remember I used to do that. BOINC kept messing up my computer, so I had to get rid of SETI.
` BTW, I have a very short and confused new post on SWASB. I was just wondering if you knew something about how one website could have that many URLs!
That's a good question Spoony. The better question is WHY would somebody take the time and money to do something like that. Where did they get their money? Do they really think their tactics will be successful? From what organization did this originate?
For those of you out of the loop, check this out.

` Scary, isn't it? Either they're some kind of huge megaforce, or they have one really clever little hacker!
